LatinWE, Electus and UCP sell sitcom Speak American to FOX

Universal Cable Productions (UCP), Latin World Entertainment (LatinWE), of Luis Balaguer and Sofía Vergara, and Electus sold the half-hour sitcom Speak American to FOX Broadcasting Company. The project was developed internally by the new Anglo arm of LatinWE.The series was written by Benjamin Brand, who is also executive producer along with Andrew Lenchewski (Royal Pains), Ben Silverman (founder of Electus), and Jimmy Fox, head of Creative Development of Electus. Vergara and Balaguer will be executive producers as well“We’re delighted to expand our association with Ben Silverman and Electus. FOX is the perfect network to feature characters and stories that cross cultural lines, broadening our understanding of what it means to be American in a fresh and funny way,” said Balaguer and Vergara. This reflects our growing relationship with Sofía and Luis, while we continue to invest in Hispanic programming, and we’re excited to do it with FOX and UCP,” added Silverman.The series revolves around a professor who teaches accent reduction to a group of young foreigners, and who hires a stranger with unconventional teaching methods. Both help their students discover what it really means to be American.
