Mintz: Deals signed by Marcos Santana in France and in 120 other countries, demonstrate the power of the telenovela

PRODU spoke with Joshua Mintz, Senior Executive VP of Telemundo Studios, about the take-aways from Natpe 2013 and the new negotiations between the network and the rest of the world. Some of the new deals include the agreement with Televisión Nacional of Chile for the acquisition of scripts over the next five years. “This deal guarantees Telemundo access to high quality novela scripts of novelas as successful as some of our biggest hits,” said Mintz. The executive is optimistic about the evolution of the dramatic genre: “The telenovela continues to give. I remember during the 80s, 90s and 2,000s, people said telenovelas would fade away, but no, the telenovela is here to stay. ”“The Latin American product has increased its appeal to the U.S. general market and the rest of the world. The stories we are producing are increasingly attractive to the different markets. Deals signed by Marcos Santana in France and in 120 other countries, demonstrate the power of the telenovela,” said Mintz.
