JK Films & TV Production did not stop in 2020 due to the covid. In November of last year, in the midst of the pandemic, the company developed a pilot of a scripted production for Telemundo, following all the health protocols in Mexico.
“When the world was in lockdown, we were able to shoot a pilot with a Grammy-nominated singer, Edwin Luna, with millions of followers, on Zoom and other platforms. We recorded in Los Angeles and Monterrey simultaneously. Before that, we produced much of the eighth season of the hit series Larrymanía, with Larry Hernández and Kenia Ontiveros (broadcast by Universo in the US). We filmed in various locations in Mexico, as the fans love to see them return to their roots,” said Alexis Serrato, Development Manager for JK Film & TV Productions.
Asked about the trends in the market, she mentioned that there is a great demand in the crime, mystery, and thriller genres “which have been successful in all markets, even in their native language.” Also of shorter episodes than the traditional “novel”, especially for streamers, “but we still see a lot of similarity in the narrative.”
She believes short-form content will continue to be explored on Qubi-style platforms, “as they had great concepts and great talents attached. It’s about finding the right home.”
