Hispanics are on the way to being responsible for 40% or more of the video consumption in the US, highlighted Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo Global Studios during his participation in MIPCancun Online+ as the keynote speaker.

“Hispanics spend 113 hours a week using their mobile devices. If we combine this with the fact that we are responsible for over half the growth of the US population and that by 2050 there will be more than 100 million Latinos, the importance of our community and the reason for our existence as studios are well consolidated,” he explained.

He highlighted that Telemundo Global Studios was the first studio in the US, regardless of the language, to resume shootings in July this year, under the pandemic. “The biggest challenge as a studio has been undoubtedly to produce content during this terrible pandemic. We have implemented strict protocols to protect our personnel. We are rewriting all our scripts to reduce the contact between our talents, changing scenes to outdoor locations as much as possible, and shooting our actors using green screens and mannequins to reduce the risk during intimate scenes and the number of people on the set” he expressed. Thanks to this, they have already shot four series: 100 Días Para Enamorarnos, Falsa Identidad, Buscando a Frida and La Suerte de Loli.

He mentioned that by redesigning their production strategy and creating superseries Telemundo catapulted its primetime schedule for three consecutive seasons. “This turns us into the only Spanish-language, original, high-quality content (relevant not only for North America but the entire world) production studio”.
