Grupo Chespirito announced an operation of independent licensing for El Chavo and El Chapulín Colorado’s characters, which were previously in hands of Televisa Consumers Products, and before with La Panadería de Maca Rotter. The group will also create new copyrights, the first will be the Día de Muertos, co-produced with Metacube.
“Twelve years ago, we created this company responsible for developing and looking after the characters. This new phase aims to take the show and its characters to new platforms, serving new audiences” said Roberto Gómez Fernández, son, and owner of Chespirito’s copyrights.
Despite the company has its own Production Development Unit, he said they will continue to create partnerships with different production houses such as Ánima Estudios and Metacube to develop content for the characters, including new copyrights.
“With Metacube we produced the Día de Muertos, which includes elements aligned with my father’s philosophy and feelings, and that will be released in 2018”.
He said that Televisa will continue to be the natural benchmark for broadcasting the original series and animated developments. “However, we have certain capsules for digital that eventually could go to open TV or to other platforms.”
