GFK: Netflix becomes one of the most used apps in mobile

According to the study MMA Mobile Report MX on the behavior of the Mexican mobile users, although apps have greater presence among them, “we noticed that along with social networks, the Netflix app is starting to stand the Netflix app out as one of the most used in smartphones,” said Ricardo Barrueta, Managing Director of GFK during his conference at the MMA Impact Forum Mexico 2019.

“The fact that users are downloading and using Netflix on their smartphones speaks of an important change in consumer habits. It is a category that does not fit in the most natural activities of the mobile telephony use'”.

The specialist highlighted that in the last year, 1,440 million mobile devices were sold, which means almost US$522 million, representing 44% of the total in the industry: “This allows us to realize the dimension of the huge importance mobile devices have in the tech world.”

He added that consumers are buying more sophisticated mobile devices and with more functions, in other words, smartphones from medium to premium ranges: “By 2017 these ranges represented a third of the total of devices sold and for 2018 it increased to 50% of total sales. This sophistication occurs mainly due to the need for optimum connectivity and video consumption”.
