Endemol Shine Boomdog’s new project with Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) in the comedy area originated thanks to Flavio Morales, Executive VP, Initiatives in the US at Endemol Shine Latino, who helped the partnership to be consolidated.
The intention is to create a platform to distribute established and emerging talent and also generate a pilot. Morales mentioned that they already have appointments with several platforms and TV stations to talk about the project and the estimate having a pilot by the end of the year.
“All of this started because I had to watch a UCB presentation in Los Angeles made by Latino students. I realized something interesting: being comedy a local thing, there we saw there were comedians from several countries -Cubans, Argentineans- which made this more global,” commented Morales.
Morales explains that they have already talked with several agents for comedians, scriptwriters, and established talents who have expressed interest in joining to take intensive classes (bootcamp), for several weekends, under the UBC curriculum.
Morales highlights that they still do not know if they will do it locally for a specific region or more globally, it all depends on if they partner with a digital platform or a TV station to make the series. “This is not fiction where we decide to do everything in neutral Spanish. We want it to authentic and real.”
The bootcamp will be held in Mexico, but there is also the possibility of having extensions in New York and Los Angeles. Morales estimates there will be 15 to 20 comedians and 6 to 10 scriptwriters.
