In the presence of guests and friends, Ana Cecilia Alvarado, CEO of Ecuavisa Studios, officially launched the campaign “Take Ecuador”, to invite the industry to film in the South American country. She ensured that their goal is to put Ecuador on the international audiovisual industry map and turn it into a production hub.
“We have 50 years of experience in the industry, representing movie, advertising and TV directors and creatives in the country to create films or premium series. Now we invite our colleagues to come, and with the new Sponsorship Law, we can become co-sponsors to finance projects. The law already exists, but a new one that will emulate others existing in Latin American countries is coming,” Alvarado commented. This Sponsorship Law allows deductions up to an additional 150% of the income tax for cinematographic works.
“We want to bring closer to the industry all these corners that they do not know and our ‘Take Ecuador’ strategy is about that, talk about the country in all its wonder, about its four worlds in one -coast, mountains, east and Galapagos Islands-, and what’s new regarding the audiovisual industry, which is promoting with a very aggressive incentive for institutional companies to donate their taxes. We are also working on a new law and to make our people known. That they think of us when writing their stories and picturing locations,” she said.
She added that they are considered as a talent laboratory. “The idea is that thanks to these new incentives we can work together and take advantage of this virgin country. We have produced our local content, but this time we can reach out and invite producers with universal views to show them that we are an unexplored center where we can create new stories and find new narratives.”
They already are in conversations with countries like Peru and with Mexican producers. “By 2023 our goal is to produce between two and three films, a discrete number, because we believe that it is the most resounding and we ensure success; Furthermore, we are in negotiations for two co-productions.”
“I am focused on producing and financing feature films and series, looking for new spaces, identifying and grouping talents and stories, in order to incubate new projects. I want to turn Ecuavisa Studios into a talent powerhouse and produce global content that has the potential to shift society paradigms,” added Alvarado.
Ecuavisa Studios also presented projects that were selected in an international call, in collaboration with Filmarket Hub. In addition to the alliance with 2bLatam, the company that produces the popular Enchufe.TV program, known for reaching a young audience with sitcom sketches and black humor that currently has more than 26 million subscribers on YouTube.
