As Smithsonian Channel continues to expand internationally, with launches already in Canada and Singapore, curious minds in Latin America can look forward to the channel launching on DIRECTV in Latin America (Channel 1747).

Smithsonian Channel will feature its renowned, award-winning original content across a wide range of historical, scientific and cultural topics, all in high definition. The channel will also be providing 4K programming for DIRECTV and will be available on the Oro HD package in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and the non-US Caribbean.

Inspired by the world-famous Smithsonian Institution and the storytelling prowess of SHOWTIME and CBS, Smithsonian Channel entertains and educates while showcasing awe-inspiring stories and powerful documentaries, shining new light on popular genres such as air and space, history, science, nature, and pop culture.

“As we continue to grow our business internationally, we’re thrilled to be launching our award-winning and diverse slate of programming on DIRECTV Latin America,” said Tom Hayden, president of Smithsonian Networks. “We love seeing our brand resonate all over the world, and are pleased that viewers in Latin America will now have access to our channel.”

“As a leading provider of digital entertainment services in Latin America, we are thrilled to be the first to bring the quality and breadth of Smithsonian Channel’s content to our audiences. And by making 4K UHD technology available to the region, we reaffirm our commitment to be at the forefront of technology and to deliver the best experience to our customers,” said Rick Nerod, SVP Content of DIRECTV Latin America.
