The dramedy Mary for Mayor (14×30’), produced by Cisneros Studios for the new Hispanic OTT platform Glosi from Cox, is directed by the Venezuelan Abraham Pulido. The story wa written by the Mexican writers boutique Blue Print, led by Raúl Campos.
The plot is based on an absurd premise: Rincón del Río, a town that has existed for 170 and where there has never been a divorce, with a woman married with the mayor’s son, who, upon discovering her husband’s infidelity, decides to run for mayor precisely to be able to change the laws and get divorced.
“As a filmmaker, I am proud that Cox was pleasantly surprised with this production. It is made with cinema quality. Mary for Mayor is a true innovation in the Hispanic market. It is the first original content made for Glosi. It was conceived for them and for this market and has been part of the launching of the platform,” comments Pulido enthusiastically, admitting it is the first time he directs something that goes straight to a digital platform.
“As a director it allowed me to give it the exact tone of a dramedy in which the plot is full of situations and entanglements, but at the same time, the characters trap you and lead you on an unending roller coaster ride,” he comments. He adds that they managed to make a series that is “honestly bilingual.”
Pulido also announced that his boxing film, Hasta que la Muerte Nos Separe, will be exhibited at the Coral Gables Art Cinema Sunday September 25 and Wednesday September 28.
