Miguel Mier, COO of Cinépolis, assured that they started in the exhibition business 48 years ago, they have been a distributor for five years, and have been producing for two. In the business` first vertical, the main investment aim is to build 200 new exhibition rooms in Mexico in 2020.
“We are going to open most of these in places that have less than 100 thousand inhabitants. We are trying to move our investments to places that don´t have the entertainment we operate. We are very strong in the endeavor for Mexican cinema to reach more audiences” stated Mier.
Regarding Cinépolis Distribución, he emphasized that their focus is Mexican ilms and they presented new titles for this year: Perdida, from Dynamo (Colombia), who are producing in Mexico; the documentary Familia de Medianoche, presented in Sundance; Cuidado Con lo que Deseas, starring Fernanda Castillo; their second co-production (with Invicta Films), La Herencia del Mal, starring Camila Sodi. Additionally, Amores Modernos, El Club de los Idealistas, Guía Para un Viajero Que No Quiere Preguntar and El Baile de los 41.
Mier assured that it is an excellent moment for Mexican cinema. 2019 was a blockbuster year and this year they hope to exceed it.
