On Wednesday the 1st at 9:30pm Miami time, Caracol TV launched the original series Ventino, El Precio de la Gloria (Ventino, the Price of Glory) on its screen in Colombia. After having successes with music-related productions, such as La Reina del Flow, Arelys Henao, Canto para no Llorar, and A Grito Herido, among others, the company was looking at how to innovate in this genre and to captivate young and adults audiences. So they chose the renowned musical group Ventino and created, around its four female members, a fictional story that mixes melodrama and music, where the band will also perform their songs, as well as new original themes for the series.
“We have made biopics about different musical icons in Colombia and we wondered what else would be worth exploring and found the girls from Ventino. We began writing a story in which we could have them and their music. We achieved a novel concept of a series that is musical, intense, and melodramatic with doses of love, revenge, and intrigues,” said Dago García, VP of Production and Content at Caracol TV.
Manuel Peñaloza, the general producer, added that despite having no acting experience, the young women “built quite melodramatic characters, which is very difficult for any actor. Of course, this was also achieved with teamwork, beginning with months of preparation at Caracol Escuela and later with the directors Rodolfo Hoyos and Jorge Navas.”
Ventino, The Price of Glory tells the story of Natalia, Camila, Olga, and Makis, four young girls who share the dream of succeeding in music, and fate puts them together with that goal. In their quest to achieve stardom, they have to deal with their own individual problems, but find in their way Martina (Carolina Gómez), their worst enemy, a woman who will do anything to block their path.
NEW ACTRESSES WELL SURROUNDED
“It was a challenge for everyone. Each of them is totally different from us and the rhythm of television is also different from the world where we generally move. We have a lot of respect for an actor’s work and prepared ourselves the best we could. We feel that thanks to the hard work we achieved a great result,” said Natalia Afanador, one of the stars of the series.
Dago García explained that in order to be balanced in the production, they surrounded the group with a reasonably solid cast. “A great highlight is a cast that includes actors with great talent and experience such as César Mora (Los Briceño, A Grito Herido), Katherine Vélez (La Ley Secreta, El General Naranjo), José Ramón Barreto (Bolívar, Arelys Henao, Canto para no Llorar, Los Medallistas) and the confirmation of Carolina Gómez (La Venganza de Analía, Mentiras Perfectas), a great actress, and she played a character that will give a lot to talk about. She is a villain who is a kind of Mephistopheles who pulls the strings of the story.
It was recorded outdoors and in studios in Bogota for seven months, with 4K Sony cameras. The musical part is very important and according to its general producer, within the story, there are “more than 200 moments of singing and more than 150 concerts or performances, with the participation of duets, trios, quartets, and bands.”
Ventino, together with Sony Music, created a musical album of ten songs composed for the series, which will be played during the episodes and according to what is happening in the story.
