Héctor Alfaro, founder, and showrunner of Café Televisión, a producer from Costa Rica who has developed project after project nonstop, one after the other, said from his location that they are working on the miniseries The Broken Mind.
The miniseries, shot with Red cameras recently purchased in New York, would be the “third miniseries and fifth production in total with the Café Televisión and Café Cinema project”.
This miniseries, made up of 10 short episodes, would be a bit “the type that is being watched on digital platforms”, it is a suspense thriller. “In Costa Rica, this style has never been made, so we hope it is well accepted.” It is in its third week of shooting and will take three more, and is available for “the largest amount of media we can reach.”
He comments that a big effort is being made since in these small markets it is necessary to implement different production models from traditional ones. “It is very difficult to find the work teams that understand this role, but also in terms of the market, it is very difficult for big distribution companies to absorb these products that are now being made”.
Regarding producers from Costa Rica, he mentioned that they all are seeking products of higher quality, therefore they will not lag behind and are updating equipment and also purchasing new equipment for postproduction rooms: “equipment that has been bought with great effort and the support of investments that somehow adds up to help the product be much more professional.” He adds that the recent alliance with Ricardo Trejos, founder of Venture Filmmaking, is essential in their new approach.
