David Hanono, general manager of Sales and Digital for Latin America and the US Hispanic Market at BBC Worldwide, commented that the Showcase is a very important event because all the new contents that will later be available for Latin America are presented, and it shows the immensity of the BBC programming that can be seen in any market.
He highlighted that Brazil together with Argentina and Mexico are the most relevant markets and mentioned that they recently closed important anual agreements with VTR in Chile, Flow in Argentina, Globo and Rede Record in Brazil.
“In 2017 we have grown 30% in content and format sales, and in 2018 we will continue with multiannual agreements. Aiming at drama, nature and formats,” he said.
He added that in 2018 they want to increase the multiannual agreements in which they set up different packages for clients, according to their needs (dramas, documentaries, children’s programming, etc.).
The goals established for 2018 include the production in the region of the successful program Top Gear, BBC’s first fiction format.
“We want to continue growing in pay TV, open TV and with the new platforms that need content and we have a lot to offer them,” he highlighted.
Lastly, he announced that they plan to co-produce in Latin America and that they are currently seeking projects that stand out for their production quality.
