The Mallorca Files (10×60’) was another of the important bets that BBC Studios presented in its Showcase.
“The Mallorca Files is a series centered on its characters. One is a British detective -Miranda Blake- played by Elen Rhys, ambitious and who has no intentions of staying on the island, and the other, a German detective, Max Winter (Julian Looman), who is enthusiastic, immature and intelligent. They have been assigned to work together because they are very different, but it is a winning combination,” explained Ben Donald, executive producer of Cosmopolitan Pictures and Murray Ferguson, executive producer of Clerkenwell Films.
They add that throughout the story, both characters develop a close relationship that is what makes the content attractive to engage audiences to follow it in every episode.
The series is in the middle of the production phase and will be aired starting February 2020.
They mentioned that the elements that make it relevant for Latin American audiences are: the chemistry between the characters and the personal journey that both make. “The fact that the characters discover that they are not as different as they thought is a trip we think audiences are going to enjoy,” they pointed out. They added that people like crime dramas that have a mystery and a resolution at the end.
“The show has a lot of Latino. A bit of the music is Latina, Brazilian,” they commented.
One of the ways in which they innovated with the show is through the direction in which there are different people for the 10 episodes.
