The Azteca America network, owned by HC2 Network, will cease transmissions as of December 31 after having operated for 22 years in the US Hispanic market.
Azteca America was launched in 2000 with an 80% share of Harry Pappas’s Telecasting (owned by Harry Pappas) and 20% of Grupo Salinas’s TV Azteca. Over time, it came to be considered the third largest broadcast TV network in the US Hispanic market, competing for the position with TeleFutura (now UNIMÁS).
In November 2017, the network was acquired by HC2 Network Inc., a group that at the time reached a programming and services agreement for seven years with Grupo Salinas, which allowed HC2 Network to have access, under certain rules, to the inventory and content of TV Azteca.
Prior to the cessation of broadcasts, HC2 Network Inc. has been selling most of the full power stations operated by Azteca America. Its affiliates and advertising partners are already aware of the closing expected for the end of the year.
