Dr. Foster Brazil, which BBC Studios is preparing, and whose director and producer have already been chosen, will be the first adaptation of a BBC drama made locally for Latin America.
“It will be the first made in Latin America in the local language, Portuguese, but can also be adapted to the rest of Latin America. We are finishing the steps to see what production company will be used. Additionally, we are also looking for a partner for Top Gear that can be for Mexico or Top Gear in the region. We are working on a lot of good things for BBC Studios,” highlighted David Hanono, Senior VP, Sales and Digital at BBC Studios Latin America/US Hispanic.
Hanono said that the BritScreens made in Miami and Mexico were the first under the umbrella of BBC Studios.
“It is a very big change for us, but a positive one. Today, the entire BBC is under the branch of BBC Studios: production, distribution, formats. This gives us the possibility to offer more content to the market and also, for the first time, our production companies in Latin America and in the US –for example, the one in Los Angeles— are starting to talk to make content for Latin America, which is a very big change and good for us,” he said.
Hanono added that this year they are focused on growing in US Hispanic with agreements like the ones made with Univision Now.
“We are also exploring new, short-format content methods. Last year we were able to do two, short-content businesses with Discovery and other companies,” he ended.
