The benefits of the new BBC Studios include that the company will be able to use the studios in Los Angeles to make programming in Spanish for Latin America, commented David Hanono, SVP, Sales and Digital at BBC Studios Latin America/US Hispanic, in the opening of BritScreen Miami 2018 celebrated in The Sacred Space downtown.
In the dramatic area new series like The Splits (6×60’), Press (6×60’), MotherFatherSon (with Richard Gere), Good Omens (6×60’) and Les Misérables (8×45’) were presented. They also revealed that the popular series Luther with Edris Alba will return for a fifth season.
In the science segment, BBC Studios presented several programs celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing of Apolo 11, that will take place in 2019: Being Buzz (1×60’), Wonders of the Moon (1×60’) and 8 Days – The Untold Story of Apollo 11 (1×90’).
Jessica Bishop, director of Formats and Co-Productions at BBC Studios, was in charge of the presentation of the formats. In scripted, she mentioned Uncle, Friday Night Dinner, Criminal Justice, Doctor Foster and The Last Hours of Laura K. In unscripted, The Generation Game, that was relaunched in April 2018 in the United Kingdom, Phone Dater, Blink, Impossible and the new competition, King of cakes
In natural history, they presented scenes of Serengeti (6×60’), Dynasties (5×50’), Animals With Cameras, Attenborough and The Sea Dragon, Big Cats About the House and Earth’s Natural Wonders, second season (3×50’).
In music, they showcased U2: Live in London, Harry Styles: Live in Manchester, Avicii: True Stories, among others.
