During the Billboard Latin Music Conference and Awards, PRODU spoke with Anton Reixa, president of Spain’s SGAE authors’ rights society, who accompanied Jorge Drexler when he presented his innovative music application called N, which is also backed by the SGAE.“It is a format application directly linked to musical composition. As our next project we will develop together with the Wake App company some training courses available to all our authors in Spain and Latin America, because we believe in digital technology and we want to make it work for us” Reixa said.As head of the SGAE he did not fail to note the underlying threat that digital platforms represent when it comes to protecting content and royalties. “We live in a contradictory world where the immense progress in technology on the one hand allows us to disseminate our work in a way we never could have dreamed of, but on the other hand, if it isn’t regulated it will mean the collapse of the culture industry”.“As authors we have to see it as a challenge, we have to reinvent ourselves and we also have to reinvent the formula for living with something that should be good but could also ruin our future” he said.As for his impressions of the Billboard Conference, Reixa said that “being at the Billboard is to understand where Latin music is going – everything about this concept of bringing together all kinds of Latin music is good”.
