In recognition of the importance of the Latino market, especially among families with young children, Disney will premier worldwide next year a new animated series called Elena de Avalor, as part of the Disney Junior programming.The announcement was made by Nancy Kanter, executive VP of Disney Junior Worldwide, who said that this character will “tell wonderful stories influenced by the culture and traditions that are familiar to the Hispanic population in the world.”Elena de Avalor; who has common features among Latinos, with brown eyes, dark hair and dark skin, has been described by Disney as “a confident and compassionate teenager,” will debut on television in a special episode of The Princess Sofia and later it will have its own series under her name. “Elena lives in a realm of fairy tales, inspired by various Latino cultures” Kanter said.The cast of the series includes Tito and Cici, Elenas grandparents, Duke Esteban and Mateo, an apprentice magician.The show will tell stories “influenced by the culture and traditions that are familiar to the world population of Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children told through a classic fairy tale” the executive said.Hispanic actress Aimee Carrero will lend her voice to give life to the character of Elena.
