The comedy filmAsuntos del Más Allá, a production of CM Films of Guadalajara and Nomada Films, distributed by Spanglish Movies in the region, will participate in the upcoming Guadalajara International Film Festival (FIGG), to be held from Friday, June 7 to Saturday, June 15, where it will be screened on Wednesday, June 12.
According to Humberto Carrera, executive producer of Nomada Films, Asuntos Pendientes del Más Allá successfully participated in the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Sitges).
“It is a comedy that has a peculiarity, and that is that looking for new production values, we made it 100% with virtual production, UnReal, in the style of Mandalorian. We tried to produce this film, totally independently, with a top-notch cast. And through Spanglish Movies, we managed to get it released in theaters in Mexico – Cinépolis and Cinemex – on December 5th of this year. I think Spanglish Movies is the best commercial partner for independent film producers. It gives a big boost to those of us who are 100% independent. It helps us build the distribution route,” said Carrera.
“It is a pleasure to be able to bring to theaters in Mexico and the US, Asuntos Pendientes del Más Allá, a blockbuster that explores in a captivating way, between comedy and horror, how our ghosts and love can endure beyond this earthly life” expressed Gustavo Aparicio, CEO of Spanglish Movies.
Asuntos Pendientes del Más Allá is the feature debut of director Ian Martin. The writers are Eduardo Espindola and Martin. The cast includes Susana Zabaleta, Facundo, Ricardo Fastlicht, Giuseppe Gamba, Bella Castillón, Marilyn Ricaño, María Barracuda, Ximena López and Ceci de la Cueva. In addition to Carrera and Martin, the producers are Gustavo Castillón, Ariadna Ruiz, and Gonzalo Ruiz de Velasco.
Carrera says that one of the advantages of producing with CM Films of Guadalajara is that Jalisco has its tax rebate system. “This year they even increased it to US$9 million. If you film in Jalisco you get a return for production services of up to 40%, and hotel and catering services of 20%. On average there is a 35% rebate,” he commented.
The story of Unfinished Business from Beyond centers on a haunted apartment building, where a decaying paranormal investigator must reunite with his daughter to solve the mystery of the building and regain his credibility as a writer and father. All the while he was trying to escape the terrible creature that stalks the place, killing the tenants one by one.
