One of the multiplatform groups that has effectively leveraged the diversification of the industry, as well as changes in user consumption, is Multimedios. Enrique Domínguez, the Content Director of Channel 6, expressed that open TV is more alive than ever, more mature, and has greatly evolved. However, they seek to adapt to this without losing the essence of live TV.
“Open TV may have died as we knew it 40 years ago, but now it is a very mature industry that has evolved into other types of content and conversations, into a more transmedia medium. The key continues to be content, not so much the distribution channels, although TV in Mexico remains the medium with the greatest penetration—there is no other that reaches 97 or 98% of the population. It is a very important medium for communicating, entertaining, and disseminating messages,” he commented.
Regarding this evolution, he detailed that the industry must also evolve: “We need to adopt different platforms and forms of communication, understand what new things consumers and audiences want. People do not replace devices; they complement them, and we must be present in different channels, forms, and languages. That is why today, Multimedios is a multiplatform, not just open TV.”
In their case, one of the keys to gaining audience preference was “realizing that in entertainment, we stopped being pretentious and sought closeness with content that people are genuinely looking for. This live TV format has worked for us and distinguished us.”
TECHNOLOGY IN FAVOR OF THE INDUSTRY
Regarding new technologies and how the industry is adopting them, he declared that these are indispensable, “but they remain tools and must be used in favor of the objectives of TV, radio, or digital. AI and all current trends will never be more important, but they are a complement. We must take advantage of them, but we need to focus on what they cannot do, which is connecting with people through feelings and emotions.”
Finally, he announced that they have a launch prepared to be revealed soon, in addition to continuing to form alliances to generate content with international partners, as they did with TV in China: “New content is coming to Channel 6, which is growing rapidly, and this year we will finish consolidating and prepare for a very strong 2025.”
