Mediapro US launched the largest virtual production center in South Florida. This is part of Grup Mediapro’s strategic plan to open virtual production centers also in Barcelona, New York, and Madrid.
Thanks to a multi-year agreement signed between Mediapro US and BrandStar, one of the longest-running production companies in the US, Grup Mediapro’s facilities in Miami will have a state-of-the-art, large-sized LED screen (24 meters wide, 7 meters tall and more than a thousand panels). This LED wall, capable of generating immersive environments, will allow the group to offer new virtual production services to its clients.
BrandStar has taken over the design, construction, and installation of the LED wall and will also offer support services to operate the virtual production system.
This audiovisual facility operates with Unreal Engine software, a 3D creation tool that synchronously combines the real environment with digitally created elements. This recording system allows the exploration of new audiovisual frontiers as it offers endless customization possibilities and generates immersive environments for movies, series, television shows, commercials, music videos, and hybrid events.
“Our partner is a leader in the virtual production industry and we have no doubt that this relationship will be very positive,” said Irantzu Diez-Gamboa, CEO, of Mediapro North America.
Mark Alfieri, founder and CEO of BrandStar, said: “Our experience producing more than 300 television episodes and 1,000 commercial video projects a year, combined with that of the Grup Mediapro team, will create new opportunities for the television and film industries.”
“About 80% of all film and television production in Florida is done in Miami-Dade County. The offer in production and virtual reality is changing day by day. Having this technological level will further expand the capacity and offer of our region”, Marco Giron, Miami-Dade Office of Film and Entertainment Manager, pointed out.
CENTERS IN MIAMI, BARCELONA, NEW YORK, AND MADRID
Grup Mediapro aims to provide virtual production equipment in its main production centers throughout 2023-2024. In this first phase, the group plans to open centers in Miami, Barcelona, New York, and Madrid.
In Barcelona, the virtual production set will start up at the end of 2023. This studio will be located in 22@, the largest urban audiovisual production center in Europe, and will combine 235 m2 of LED screens with chroma.
In the third quarter of this year, the group will add a new 1,500m2 virtual production center in New York.
The second phase of this strategic plan will be completed with the start-up, from 2024, of another center in Madrid. And, in the following phases, Grup Mediapro will deploy this technology in all its production centers.
