Tita Lombardo Campanario

Tita Lombardo, recently appointed as Director of Physical Production in Latin America at Campanario, has been collaborating with the company for three years. She participated in the production of the three seasons of Cómo Sobrevivir Soltero for Amazon and Pantaya, and in the first season of La Flor más Bella which is in post-production for Netflix.

“I am very excited to continue working on a series for Latin America, which I really like, and to continue with my role as a film producer,” said Lombardo. She added that Campanario’s new plans include two feature films and three series, one of which is close to being approved. “This is a very funny and humorous comedy. We will begin prepping in September and it will be produced in Mexico City,” she said.

Campanario is considering new business models such as co-productions and film production of which Lombardo has great experience because she has produced more than 40 films in Mexico.

“The current situation of cinema in Mexico is incredible. The year when I produced Amores Perros, 10 films were made. To get to do one of those 10 was very exciting. I began making movies in the 80s and it was very similar: 10, 12 or 15 movies were made a year; until the State decided that producers must begin to train. Now we are producing between 150 and 200 films with almost 50% to 60% of State funds (Eficine, Imcine). This funding has driven production growth. I am glad to see that what was a small industry is becoming a better and thriving industry,” she highlighted.

Lombardo suggested that in addition to film schools, courses in certain specific areas, such as makeup and props, and that are not offered should be ofered such as makeup and props, “which is good in order to have more trained people.”

She noted that streaming platforms have been a great incentive, “not only to professionalize us, but to have a constant workflow. Thanks to the platforms, work continues to flow in Mexico. They have arrived to teach us how to make series, how to work in two units and even three, how to make series of 8, 10 episodes, even 60-80 episodes teleseries. All this has given us a greater experience.”

Campanario is setting up offices in the La Condesa, CDMX.
