Peacock MLB
Just one day after news broke that Apple TV+ would be acquiring broadcast rights to some Friday MLB games on its digital platform; Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, announced that they too will offer Major League Baseball matches as part of its content offering.
According to Forbes, the deal closed for $30 million, with rights to broadcast Monday and Wednesday night games, games that ESPN had the rights to under its previous contract. It was also reported that some of the matches will be broadcast on NBC.
Comcast, the parent company of NBCU and Peacock, has seen sports as a way to accelerate the number of subscribers for its Peacock platform, which has to compete against other streaming giants. Peacock recently broadcast the Olympic Games and the Super Bowl, with good results in terms of audiences and growth. The platform is expecting the same results from US baseball fans and this new agreement with the MLB.
