Rodrigo Mazón, former VP of Content at Netflix, has joined as SVOD’s EVP and General Manager of the new Univision streaming platform and will work directly with Pierluigi Gazzolo, President and CEO of Transformación of Univision.
Mazón has more than 10 years of the streaming experience. He will be responsible for all the SVOD elements, including content strategy and programming, original content production, talent relationships, acquisition of third-party-produced content, and subscriber growth and retention.
Michael Cerdá, former Disney+, had joined the team previously as EVP of Streaming Products and Engineering. Cerdá was in charge of Disney+ internationally. He now oversees product strategy and engineering for Univision’s streaming portfolio.
Rafael Urbina, EVP and General Manager of Univision’s AVOD, will continue to run PrendeTV and lead the future free level with advertising in the US and internationally.
“We are building a dream team. We will announce other positions on my executive team shortly. The only reason why executives of such high ranks as Mazón and Cerdá wanted to join is that they understand the vision,” said Gazzolo.
He highlighted that under Urbina’s management, PrendeTV, which was launched in April, already has one million users. “Urbina has done an excellent job, imagine what it will be like when we upgrade,” he concluded.
