THEMA América, a Canal+ group company, announced that during the weeks of mandatory confinement, Canal 22 Internacional, Mexico’s cultural channel in the U.S., will join the COVID19-related initiatives of the Ministry of Culture.
As part of the Contigo en la Distancia (With You at a Distance) campaign, it has put many of its materials and activities on the ministry’s free digital cultural site, with activities for the whole family. In addition, it has dedicated part of its programming to inform the audience about what to do in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes premieres to celebrate Earth Day, short films, and new episodes of its flagship programs, to keep Spanish-speaking families company as they quarantine at home.
The digital culture space, called Contigo En La Distancia (With you at a Distance) provides completely free access that lets the whole family find something to do. Among the activities offered by the site are full TV shows, announcements, tours of museums and archaeological zones, films, books, concerts, conferences, documentaries, plays, audio presentations, applications, and much, much more.
Since the coronavirus health crisis was unleashed, Canal 22 Internacional has supported the #QuédateEnCasa (Stay At Home) initiative, both on-air with promos, and on social media, inviting everyone to stay home. In addition, it keeps the audience company throughout the day with advice and live news of the latest coronavirus developments, presenting two-minute information spots throughout the daily schedule.
“As a public channel that serves our audience, today we must help promote changes in people’s behavior, to contribute to reducing the contagion and spread of the virus, to keep from overwhelming hospitals,” said Orissa Castellanos, Canal 22’s director of International Signal. She added, “It is also is important to stop the spread of errors, fight disinformation, and refute rumors and false news about the coronavirus pandemic.”
To keep viewers informed of the progress of the pandemic, Canal 22 Internacional is now presenting Coronavirus, la Pandemia, Monday through Friday at 1pm EST / 10am Pacific. In addition, it presents the informative daily program Noticias 22. Every Tuesday at 2:30pm EST / 11:30pm Pacific, it presents COVID-19, Consulta Directa, a program that invites experts to answer questions from the audience about the virus.
