David Royle

David Royle, Executive VP and Programming Director at Smithsonian Channel, announced during Jornadas the acquisition of the documentary series Clorofilia, produced by Canal Encuentro, Cont.ar and Planta Alta, all in Argentina, with whom they are also going to co-produce content.

“Our goal is to continue producing local content and grow in the region. Latin America is a very relevant and interesting market. We want to be an important player here. We know it is not going to happen overnight, but we are working to be one of the main high-quality content producers in Latin America,” said Royle.

The executive mentioned they just finished producing in Mexico Epic Animal Migration: Mexico, a factual show on the wildlife and landscapes of that country, that is going to be aired worldwide. “With the programs we are going to produce in the region, what we are looking for is for them not only to be aired here, but to have very high quality, and that they can travel worldwide, to make known the Latin American culture,” he expressed.

“We are the owners of the rights to our contents, and share them with whom we co-produced these contents. The importance of this is that we can offer operators whatever they want, programs for linear TV and programs for digital platforms.”

He also pointed out that they have co-productions in Mexico, Chile, Brasil, and Argentina.
