Viacom International Studios (VIS) Americas acquired the rights of the book 38 Estrellas, written by Josefina Licitra and edited by Grupo Planeta.

The book, based on a true story that took place in Uruguay, tells about the greatest escape from a women´s prison in history on July 30, 1971. The author managed to reconstruct the details of the event known as Operación Estrella.

After exhaustive documentation and several interviews to many of the protagonists —including Lucía Topolansky, partner of the former president of Uruguay Pepe Mujica, Licitra managed to produce an extraordinary account.

“In times of women´s empowerment, 38 Estrellas puts the focus on a group of women younger than 25 years of age who dedicated themselves to a cause and were forgotten by history. In the myriad of books written about the Tupamaro movement, they barely mention this escape. To bring this silenced and dark side to light puts us in tune with our current period,” mentioned Mercedes Reincke, VP of Development at VIS.
