Paco Ramos, VP, Original Content at Netflix, announced during the official presentation of their first production center in Europe, in Madrid, at the Estudios Secuoya from Tres Campos, known as Casa Netflix, two new series that will be produced in that country: Los Favoritos de Midas, directed by Mateo Gil, and El Inocente, directed by Oriol Paulo.
Los Favoritos de Midas will star Luis Tosar. Based on a 1901 story by Jack London, this six-episode miniseries was created by Mateo Gil together with Miguel Barros and produced by Nuria Valls, Adrian Guerra, and Miguel Ángel Faura. It tells the story of Víctor, a business mogul who suffers strange blackmail from a mysterious organization that constantly kills people randomly unless they pay absurd sums of money.
El Inocente will be based on the homonymous novel by Harlan Coben. With eight episodes, it is written by Jordi Vallejo, Oriol Paulo, and Guillem Clúa. It shares the story of how in a fight Mateo, went from being innocent to becoming an ex-convict. His wife Olivia, pregnant, receives a call that will destroy Mateo´s life for the second time. Shootings are expected to start at the end of this year.
The company currently has 15 projects underway with a Spanish seal, which are expected to generate 25,000 employments. Since its opening in Spain in 2015, the platform has promoted 24 creations, 40 co-productions and generated 13.000 employments, according to the Business Development VP for EMEA, María Ferreras.
