José Cancela, president and general manager of Telemundo Puerto Rico, has been in charge of the channel for seven years. On Thursday, April 28 was the 65th anniversary of the foundation Telemundo Puerto Rico, channel that gave its name to Telemundo in the US.
“We are celebrating Ángel Ramos´ vision. If he were alive, he would be more than proud that after 65 years, Telemundo Puerto Rico continues in vigor, leading and setting standards,” expressed Cancela.
Cancela detailed the origen of the channel through the story of Ramos, its founder, who began working in the Puerto Rican newspaper El Mundo, in the lowest positions and managed to buy it. “He grew in the newpaper, and when they were selling it, because the owners had no heirs, he managed to achieve financing for the purchase. From there, he got the first license granted for a TV channel in Puerto Rico: Telemundo Puerto Rico, also known as Canal 2 in San Juan and WKAQ-TV. He also had a radio station that is now property of Univisión Radio”.
The Ángel Ramos foundation and eight production studios operate in the facilities of Telemundo Puerto Rico.
