Qué Momento returned on Sunday March 24 at 11pm on Telemundo with a new episode that takes an in depth look into the summer of 98’ when Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire had the Great Home Run Record Chase. A moment that revitalized the sport of baseball when its future and popularity seemed uncertain.
The one-hour special recounted how the two battled it out, keeping count of each run. McGwire ultimately ended the season with 70 runs while Sosa had a total of 66, and that same year Sosa was selected as the National League Most Valuable Player over McGwire. McGwire and Sosa capped their seasons as the co-holders of Sports Illustrated’s Sportsmen of the Year.
Hosted by five-time Emmy winner Andrés Cantor, the episode included analysis and interviews with baseball personalities, such as Sammy Sosa himself along with Nelson Cruz, Aramis Ramírez, Livan Hernández, Vinny Castilla, and renowned baseball writers and sports commentators.
Qué Momento was born from Cantor’s signature phrase “Qué Momento,” which he uses to describe the most exciting moment in a soccer match. The quarterly special takes an in-depth journalistic look at some of the greatest and most memorable moments in sports history.
This season features memorable moments from baseball, soccer and women in sports. The show will return in June of 2019 with a special around one of the most memorable moments of the U.S. Women’s National Team, in anticipation of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
