David Royle, EVP and Programming director at the Smithsonian Channel, commented that since they launched on DIRECTV Latin America in May 2018, reception by the audience has been exceptional and that they are currently one of the main non-fiction channels on DIRECTV.

“The next step is to increase the amount of programming that talks about the history, culture and natural history of the region, and to increase the distribution of the signal in the region,” reported Royle.

He announced that for this year, they will do a program on the historian Alexander von Humboldt, who spent a great deal of time conducting research in the region.
