Amazon Prime Video held the red carpet of LOL: Last One Laughing in Mexico City. It is a series starring Eugenio Derbez, as well as standupprs and comedians, that will reach the platform December 14.
Marco Nobili, director of Amazon Prime Video Mexico, explained that this project is very original, since it is an experiment: “Nobody has done it before, we brought this format from Japan, it has only been done there. It has no genre, it is a new way to make television”, pointing out that it is an adaptation of the Prime Original series Hitoshi Matsumoto presents documental, produced and starred by Hitoshi Matsumoto.
Led by Derbez, marking his return to a series since 2012, the six-episode production LOL: Last One Laughing, will make 10 famous Mexican comedians compete among each other. They have diverse styles, including stand-up, characters, improvisation and physical comedy, in a competition for the prize of a million Mexican pesos. Nobili, who states that all the characters are very strong, assures that in this experiment to make people laugh, “absolutely everything comes up”.
The participants include Alexis de Anda, Diablito, Poncho Borbolla, Manu Nna, Carlos Ballarta, Michelle Rodríguez, Daniel Sosa, Alex Fernández, Alex Montiel (El Escorpión Dorado), La Chupitos, entre otros.
LOL: Last One Laughing is the fourth Prime Original series from Amazon Prime Video for Mexico, following Diablo Guardián, Un Extraño Enemigo and the biographical series based on the life of Diego Armando Maradona, produced with BTF Media, Raze and Dhana Media, and distributed by Disney.
It includes Juan Maldonado from Litopos Producciones as showrunner and is produced by Derbez and 3Pas Studios, owned by his partner Ben Odell, and Endemol Shine Boomdog.
