According to Mar Martínez, Director of Atresmedia Internacional, the consolidation of a mixed model, VOD and linear channels, is currently the best. “There is still a big audience that watches linear TV and prefers the channel to do the curating. The combination of both -linear and VOD- works well for us,” she explained during her participation in the panel El Nuevo Mercado de Series y Películas VOD en Suramérica from Dataxis´ Nextv Series Argentina 2020.
In addition to Martínez, the panel included Olga Kornienko, co-founder and COO and DRM Integration Specialist at EZDRM; and Sebastián Snaider, VP Distribution and Latin America Account Management and Business Development at Starz.
Snaider said that the StarzPlay platform is present in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile direct to consumers, but they are also as channels on platforms such as Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video, in addition to the agreements they have with TotaPlay and Izzy in Mexico and Claro in Brazil.
For his part, Kornienko mentioned that the platforms or channels that have plans to license premium studio content cannot do it if they do not have a digital rights management system (Digital Rights Management, DRM). He highlighted that his company helps guarantee the safety of this content on devices.
