Having voices representing the Latinos offer authenticity

Latin Executives

Executives Christian Gabela, SVP, Director of Latin America and Spain, Gaumont; Michele Sánchez, executive director of Acquisitions at Starz; and Alberto Mendoza, executive director of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists of the USA, met at Latino Media Fest to give their views on the role of Latino executives in the industry.

They all agreed that it is important that there is Latino diversity in the areas of the industry because it provides authenticity. “This is done by supporting voices that represent our community and history,” Gabela noted, even internationally.

He added that there is also a business opportunity in creating content that reflects more accurately the different audiences globally. “As a Latino, I am an advocate and I promote those kinds of stories, whether within the United States as the Hispanic community, or abroad.”

Likewise, at Starz, they are focused on promoting Hispanic content, such as the Vida series. Sánchez assured that it is a priority to have that talent behind the camera and to give it a chance.

In Gabela’s view, “it’s finding interesting and compelling stories or voices” and giving them support. He commented that Gaumont is a place where “talent can come and really have access to what we offer creatively and from a global perspective. We also do animation. We want to be the creative home of talent. ”

He is sure that Latinos are going to be successful because “we have so many incredible stories to tell and storytellers, and they are universal stories in many ways.” The idea is to continue supporting them.
