The future of the film industry is uncertain

“The most uncertain thing is the future of the film industry, and more so in Argentina. Filmmaking everywhere needs the support of the State, it needs grants. If not, it cannot be done. Here, the audiovisual and theater sectors are not a priority and are truly punished,” stated the Argentine writer Patricio Vega on #PRODUprimetime with Richard Izarra, when referring to this moment of the industry.

As for TV, he said: “Local channels are not making any fiction and are heading towards zero. This is a very strong blow for the audiovisual industry; there are a bunch of technicians, a bunch of actors, and a bunch of production companies that are not going to have any space. It is true that there is an international opening, but it is also true that there we are competing with the entire word. It is a complex scenario, however, I think in the long run, it will adjust and we will enter a production springtime, but first, we must go through this winter”.

‘Pato’ Vega counts among his accomplishments Los Simuladores at the start of 2000 together with Damian Szifron, and Hermanos y Detectives, which he made again with Szifron. He is currently writing a big series for Amazon and a story for a local production company.

He has had a script school for 13 years. “I like teaching very much, to accompany someone else´s creative process, to be his mentor…, help him find what he wants to say and the best way to do it. It is very rewarding, I take great pleasure in doing it”.
