YipTV: We offer content originally made outside the US that is not available in the traditional pay TV systems

YipTV, the OTT platform, currently has 60 channels that are originally from outside the US, and which air live programming. There are plans to increase this number rapidly in the following weeks. For now the platform is only present in the US. “Due to the nature of our programming, YipTV is definitely a complement to paid TV services. Our programming is personalized and caters to subscribers who make up the “Fifth Nation” and want to see content from their homelands. This content is not currently available through traditional cable operators like Comcast or even Univision, so our service is designed to meet that unmet need,” explains to PRODU Michael Tribolet, co-fundador and CEO at YipTV.Tribolet says that for now they are doing everything in house, it is much more economic and counting on the experience they have, they know what they should do. “Our business model is based exclusively on subscription. Over time, as we grow, there might be an opportunity to add in advertising, but for the time being, we are able to run our business on a subscription-only based model.”Regarding the authentication method they use in their platform, he pointed out: “We have used open source components wrapped up with a bit of our own secret sauce on authentication. Having provided consumer-oriented services for over 20 years online, we filed patents for the way we do authentication.”He added that they aim to add video on demand (VOD) services at the end of this year. For the time being, there are no plans to produce original content.
