Fernando Barbosa, Disney Media Distribution Latin America SVP, The Walt Disney Company Latin America, declared that the idea of the series on the life of Juan Gabriel, Hasta Que Te Conocí (15×60′), was conceived 7 years ago in La Habana, Cuba.“I was at home in La Habana with my mother in law, precisely watching a special on the life of Juan Gabriel, there it came to me… Why not make a Biopic series? I remember that when I returned, I made the comment to my friend and brother Luis Balaguer, who had the ideal person for the job: Mary Black, a close friend of Juan Gabriel!”, Barbosa told PRODU in its screenings in the Disney studios in Burbank.“Mary liked the idea, we spoke a bit but nothing happened”, he continued telling. “However, around three years ago in the NATPE, I had a meeting scheduled with Luis Villanueva and he arrived with Mary. Luis asked me: “Negro, what projects are we going to do?” I looked at Mary Black and she said: Juan Gabriel! And since then the plan hasn’t stopped”. He acknowledged his assistants in this series, Azteca in Mexico, Turner in Pan regional cable and Telemundo in US Hispanic. He indicated that they have plans to make two more of the biopic series like the one on Juan Gabriel in the short term.From the other programming exhibited, with the seals Marvel, Pixar, ABC, Lucasfilms, he said they had 34 series, counting new ones and the ones they are reviving, stressing that they had never presented so many products in one season. He also mentioned films such as Avengers, Tomorrowland and Star Wars which, in his opinion, would be a viral explosion.
