Castalia Communications has signed an agreement with the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) to assist in the development and distribution of a new channel aimed at the 5,2 million Native Americans and millions more who have Native American ancestry and an affinity for the culture throughout the U.S. Launched in Canada in 1999, APTN is the first national Indigenous television network in the world with programming by, for and about Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples – First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, among others. APTN’s content includes children’s animation, youth, cultural and traditional programming, music, drama, news and current affairs, as well as live coverage of special events and interactive programming.“APTN has done an excellent job of entertaining and informing Aboriginal audiences throughout Canada” said Castalia’s president and founder, Luis Torres-Bohl. “We are excited by the opportunity to now bring this relevant, high-quality TV option to a clearly underserved segment of the US population.” “Castalia has a great reputation for successfully distributing international TV brands in the U.S. and beyond” said Jean La Rose, CEO of APTN. “They are the ideal partner to grow the reach of APTN’s programming, with the goal of connecting a whole new audience of Native Americans with content that speaks to their heritage.”APTN will gradually license programming content from the U.S. that will be produced, written and directed by Native Americans.
