Discovery: Gradual increase of original productions for U.S. Hispanic

This year, Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic seeks to increase its original production in Latin America by 20%.“To this end, we continue seeking strategic partners, especially in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Peru, that can meet the production quality standards that differentiate Discovery as a worldwide leader, provider of reality-based programming,” said to PRODU Michela Giorelli, VP of Production and Development.Regarding the U.S. Hispanic market, Giorelli pointed out that based on the positive audience response the company is gradually increasing the number of original productions.“In fact, our original productions in 2011, including Deportados, La ruta de la muerte, Apocalipsis Maya, and Los hipopótamos del Capo, made us he second most watched pay-TV channel among Hispanics for the third consecutive year,” she added.Giorelli also indicated that the original productions, shot mainly in Mexico and Colombia, work exceedingly well with the U.S. Hispanic audience. “In some cases we replace characters and Latin American experts with Hispanic characters, adding some U.S. locations to make the content more relevant for this market,” added Giorelli.
