Carlos Vasallo, owner of VasalloVisión
Hispanic TV network VasalloVisión, owned by Spanish entrepreneur Carlos Vasallo, will place a bid for the acquisition of Channel 22 of Los Angeles, currently owned by NBC Universal and Telemundo. Vasallo already owns two other signals in the U.S. Hispanic market: Cine Nostalgia and Cine Estelar. The goal is to transform Channel 22 in a super station, centerpiece of the VasalloVisión network. The bidding is expected to be resolved in the coming weeks, given the approval of the joint venture between Comcast and NBC Universal.Channel 22 of Los Angeles had been up for sale for some time due to antitrust laws, which dictated that NBC Universal liquidated some of its assets in the Los Angeles market in order to avoid a monopoly. The company already owns an NBC station and a Telemundo station, aside from Channel 22.
