Paola Nimo of Natura: More than a time of sustainability, this is a time of creating positive impacts on both environmental and social ecosystems

For Paola Nimo, sustainability manager at Natura Argentina and Chile, we’re no longer in a time of compensating or neutralizing deadly impacts, but rather a moment of regeneration. “Sustainability means the power to protect future generations on both the environmental side and in society, but day by day we know that we have little time left to weather either climate change or the social crises, so we need to create a much more positive strategy to renew these ecosystems, not just the environment but society in general.” It can be said that Natura is a judge in the region as far as companies created with a sustainable DNA are concerned. It is a Brazilian multinational of the cosmetic and personal-care segment, a leader in direct sales founded in 1969 with the additional mission of bringing a sense of well-being and harmonic relations of individuals with themselves, with others and with nature. In fact, for years it has no longer experimented with animals, of declaring itself carbon neutral and of being a champion of the conservationist circular economy, without ever forgetting that it is a business. She said that for 40 years now, Natura has made replacements in their lines of products for two reasons: first is to have a more accessible price structure, but the second is that in this way they can lengthen the life of their products, “because if they are refilled, those containers will never be tossed in the trash.”But this is not just about lengthening the life of products, but always thinking of a circular economy. “Starting with the design of our containers, we’ve been working so they can be recycled, and we use recycled product containers every time. For example, we have complete lines of products now with 100 percent used and recycled containers. We have perfumery stores with up to 30 percent used-glass containers, we have a line of perfumes in bottles that are part plastic, and that plastic is recovered from the seashores of Brazil,” Nimo said.
