Shutterstock has a new tool, Shutterstock Generate, which allows the creation of images through artificial intelligence (‘AI). In that regard, Verushka Spear, client success manager at Shutterstock, explained that they maintain a Contributor Fund to compensate contributors for their help with the tool. “We compensate them in two ways. First, when a model is made, to whoever helps get it working, and otherwise,, whenever an image is licensed,” she said In that sense, she stressed that Shutterstock seeks to be in the vanguard of technology by providing creatives with tools that make their work more agile. By the same token, she detailed that ethics and responsibility are key for using these tools. “We like to work in a correct manner that keeps the users calm,” she said. Spear explained that this tool allows creating from the imagination, “as if the person had a clean sheet and draws an idea. And the more detailed the description, the more feasible it will be to generate what you’re imagining. It’s not the same as looking for an image – now it’s opening a world of possibilities.
