Cortez Brothers has added director Doug Cox to its United States roster except in the San Francisco market where he will continue to direct and edit for his own studio, The Cabinet. The acquisition of Cox adds a special comedy element to the Cortez Brothers’ team of directors. “We’ve always been interested in hiring a great comedy director and Doug’s work is guaranteed to make you smile, something we can all use a lot more of these days. His resourceful editing also enriches his work as a director and he benefits enormously from his experience at an ad agency,” said Ed Rivero, managing director of Cortez Brothers. Cox kicked off his career at the Publicis & Hal Riney agency editing and producing content, before launching The Cabinet with the former head of production at Riney, David Verhoef. As a director, his career includes work for such brands as Diamond Almond, Method Men and Splunk. Cox got to know Rivero thanks to a friend they had in common in the sector. “And through a number of conversations we discovered that I fit in with several really attractive job profiles in his company,” Cox said. “What’s more, our San Francisco operation offered that same position, which has been a great choice for agencies and brands seeking the offer of ‘all included.’” Cox said this about his new job: “What I hope to achieve with them can be summed up in the word ‘reach’: to have my work reach way beyond the market I know here in the Bay Area. I want to add my brand of fun to their already incredible list of directors.”
