Debbi Vandeven de VMLY&R
Debbi Vandeven, global CCO of the brand experience agency VMLY&R, said while taking part in a Lions Live session as president of the Social & Influencer Lions 2020-2021 jury, that they could be looking at pieces of work the likes of which have never been seen before: “What we are looking for are pieces everyone is talking about and that are changing the world and what we do every day.” Brands must make sure they are ready to go social. “Some must decide to change their own organizations before entering into conversations on social media. I look forward to seeing which do this right in 2021 and which ones have a hard time,” she told Cannes Lions General Manager Simon Cook. Vandeven said that after the pandemic, people’s habits will have changed, and gave the acceleration of e-commerce as one example. “And I think we’ll continue to see this in social behavior,” she added. Nor does she believe things will go back to the way they were before, even if the whole world opens up again. “This online behavior will undoubtedly continue, and people will feel less threatened about ordering or doing things differently online. There ‘s a great world out there for people on social media,” she said.
