Whether in technology or media, Latinos are mostly invisible, according to Steven Wolfe Pereira, Chief Marketing Officer at Quantcast, who shared during Hispanicize 2018 an enlightening evaluation of Latinos from an entrepreneurial perspective, together with solutions to help Hispanics rise in the business community and achieve greater visibility and leadership. “The 20 most usual occupations among Latinos in the U.S. all include heavy manual labor and dangerous work, as in agriculture and construction” Wolfe said. “Latinos are also overrepresented in repetitive jobs that require little digital skill.” He said Latinos lack representation in corporate America: “Only 2.6 percent of Hispanics have a place on corporate Boards of Directors, according to the Fortune 500 list of the biggest companies in the United States. Only 3 percent of Hispanics are on the Fortune 500 list of senior executives.” Not enough Latinos are starting the right businesses nor are enough Hispanics becoming senior executives, yet “the number of Hispanic-owned businesses started up over the last decade was 15 times more than the national average” Wolfe said.
