3% Movement And The Athena Film Festival Launch The Athena Advertising Awards

The 3% Movement partnered with the Athena Film Festival to create a new award that will recognize the best advertising pieces that tell stories of women and girls: the Athena Advertising Awards.“Representation of women and children in advertising has improved, thanks in great measure to consumers’ ability to talk to brands through social networks” said the Founder of the 3% Movement, Kat Gordon, in a statement. “It’s time to celebrate brands and agencies that are proving their leadership by creating messages about ambition, value, resistance and determination.”“One of the main goals of the Athena Film Festival is to challenge the way society sees and values women” added Kathryn Kolbert, Co-Founder of the festival. “In many ways, these points of view are shaped by advertising. We couldn’t be more thrilled to launch this new initiative to award those brands and agencies that are raising the images and voices of brave and bold women and girls.”The award is open to U.S. brands and agencies and will have six categories: Film, Digital/Mobile, Social Marketing, Print, Events/Experiential and Integrated Campaigns. Submissions are open from June 16th until September 8th. The awards delivery will be part of the 3% Conference in New York on November 3rd and will then be celebrated at the Athena Film Festival, that will take place between February 22nd and 25th in the Barnard College.
