Uno de los mensajes de texto fatales que componen la letra de la canción, Put it Down
Every day 11 teenagers die in car accidents in the U.S. One out of every four car accidents is the result of driving and using the cell phone at the same time. This motivated the Hispanic agency Dieste to partner with the musician Alë Jay to create the campaign Put it Down, to urge people not to use their mobile devices when driving. According to the agency, Alë Jay helped compose a song, whose lyrics are a compilation of fatal text messages written at the exact moment the crash occurred. “Put it Down is a song that took the lives of those who wrote it” says the song. “We found a way to disguise a three-minute ad as an emerging song, which was played on major radio stations, persuading drivers not to text and drive at the exact moment they exhibit this behavior” highlighted Dieste. The song was hosted on SoundCloud, where people could follow the text messages on real time and learn more about the stories of the victims. Since its release, Put It Down has been inspiring more drivers to put their phone down while they drive.
