Evelyn Miralles From NASA: For VR You Just Need An Intelligent Team And Good Content

MIralles: Tenemos 20 años trabajando en el desarrollo de esta tecnología

The Venezuelan, Evelyn Miralles, is the main Engineer of the Virtual Reality (VR) Laboratory in NASA. In a speech during the 2017 CMO Summit of the Hispanicize event, she shared together with Claudia González Romo, from UNICEF, Hispanic women’s place in the world of technology and innovation. After a 25 year career as pioneer of this technology, she feels that currently it is not necessary to spend too much, nor to have a big space to do VR, just an intelligent team that can solve the challenges that are put forward and to have good content. It all started with education, said Miralles. “In NASA they just pay attention to knowledge, you must have the abilities. I didn’t feel less over being a woman or Hispanic, although I am the only one in my surroundings. I made it because I was able to show my abilities, I studied a lot and still spend many nights reading and working very hard. Then, I reached a point when I realized that we were doing something unique and it seemed important to go out and tell the world what we had achieved.”Her advice for young Latinas is: “Knowledge is your power, work hard and be curious.”She reviewed the historic evolution of VR. “We have been working on the development of this technology for 20 years. We needed to repair some things in space and didn’t know how to train astronauts for this challenge. The first time VR was used in the world was in 1993 to train the astronauts that fixed the Hubble telescope.”
